GARDEN HOUSE

Historic Forest Hills Gardens is a verdant oasis in New York City, this house and its gardens had been neglected for several years and needed a complete redesign. The long narrow garden to the rear of the house is divided into separate lounging and dining areas surrounded by  a selection of primarily native shrubs, trees and perennials. Trellis panels and fencing encourages vines to soften the house structure and the boundary lines, while affording both light and air to penetrate keeping the plants healthy. The front garden is planted to embrace the architectural context of the neighborhood. As the planting matures the contrast between the forms of the boxwood and billowing perennials will compliment each other. The use of container plantings allows for different height variations and a creative space for planting different combinations using color, form and texture.
